Time for the PPPP Wrap-up Report!
Howdy PolyBurners,
It's time for Tailfeather's Perfect Place for Poly Play wrap-up report.
This was the second time we created our camp's intimate play space using the 25
foot geodesic dome from our Tranquility Bay theme camp a few years ago. This
year we had a better cover, better lighting, better interior decorations, better
upper deck flags and a modest bacon, er, beacon too.
Setup went well starting Saturday and was completed Sunday, but late afternoon
winds delayed final covering until Monday. This year we had a full cover and
complete floor, hanging tapestries and wall coverings.
Several strings of LED xmas lights provided light through the night. A table was
set up as space for personal and shared items. Several camps and individuals
brought lots of stuff to share and helped make PPPP one of the "safest" camps
around! We had several people bring bedding and we had ample space for people to
play. Again this year we had a dome- top observation platform that sported five
banners on ten foot poles and a central tower that held a homemade strobe
beacon. Later in the week saw the addition of a 14 foot bamboo pole with an
Earth flag at the end. The PPPP Dome has never looked better! This year we
didn't use carpeting for flooring to save transport weight, instead we used a
circle of Dacron fabric over a very smooth Playa surface leveled out using a
landscape rake. Very soft on bare feets! This year we limited the size of
donated items to maintain open space and that worked out nicely.
Tuesday evening we held a Tantric Puja led by Moondog and friends. The Puja was
well attended and was done as an entry level intimate exercise (clothes on) so
everyone would feel comfortable attending. At the end we had a great puppy-pile
that lasted well into the night.
Through the week PPPP was used on a regular basis for it's intended purpose, as
a non-public place for our members to express intimacy and explore their
sexuality in an open and non-judgmental environment. The entrance was
purposefully located away from our camp's common areas to limit non-member
access. The dome was open for use 24/7 except for limited special events.
Things ran smoothly until Friday's high winds started shredding the exterior
covering. Not much we could do to effect repairs and even higher winds through
Saturday did even more damage. We started doing cleanup work Sunday and final
breakdown was done on Monday.
The floor and exterior cover were fabricated from a surplus aerial advertising
banner bought years ago at a swap meet. It turns out the fabric can be quite
strong in one direction yet fairly weak in another.
Oh well, it lasted long enough to get the job done. Mostly! The floor is still
in great shape and will be back in '09.
The dome structure came back to Southern California instead of heading home to
Scotto so I can set it up and fabricate a really durable, fitted cover. I plan
on re-working the platform and ladder so we can have a higher, safer perch.
Likely will not install a tower atop the perch for '09 to save shipping weight
and reduce complexity and shorten build and breakdown time.
After returning, all bedding and decorative fabrics were washed and put in
storage until next year.
Thanks to all who had a hand in creating Four Peas this year. Your help in
setup, operation, cleanup and teardown made my effort a lot easier. Special
thanks to Scotto for enabling the Four Peas Project and providing space in a
tight camping area. Thanks Lenel and Keith for keeping energy levels up and
being there for build and takedown.
Thanks Stephanie and Mark for decorating and bringing beds and decorative items.
Thank you Moondog and friends for creating a very worthy Tantric Puja. Thanks to
all the hands who helped make takedown fast and pain-free. Lastly, thanks to all
the lovers of Poly Paradise who enjoyed having and making use of Four Peas this
year.
You all rock! See you in '09!
For '09 we will have an improved, wind and waterproof cover; more soft goods
like blankets, sheets and airbeds. Since our Tantric Puja went really well, we
will do more next year.
But...
I am looking for help on this project. I would like to have members bring a few
more airbeds, more sheets and more bedspreads. I would like to have people adept
at creating people-connection events next year too. Please contact me off list
if you can help or have questions or concerns about Four Peas.
Til next time,
Hugs, Tailfeather
