Playa Name: Scotto

Where do you call home? - Phoenix, AZ

Been to Burning Man before? When? Yes - '00, '01, '02, '03, '04

Camped with PolyParadise Before?    Yes - '00, '01, '02, '03, '04

Why Burning Man?  - BRC is the Ultimate Party, a place to be free and to express yourself in what ever manner you desire.  BM has transformed my life!

Volunteer on the Playa? - Station Manager @ Greeter Station, LNT CZAR for Shangri-La Village

My Life in 143 Words:
Some people know me as Scott Platsky. Others know me as Scotto and still others as ScottoBobScotto. I have been known to answer to Bob, Gus and even Jim on occasion. In certain circles I am known as Sir Jim of Bob.

No matter what name you know me by, I am and always will be just 'An Ordinary Average Guy'. I know enough to be VERY dangerous. A master of not much and a legend in my own mind.

Burning Man has CHANGED my life. I shall never be the same... It has allowed me to look at my 'Box' and decide if it must remain a Square.

I am a Computer Instructor / Programmer…Create Web Pages…enjoy Action Films (Death, & Spurting Blood) [Kill Bill Rocks!!], meeting new friends…But most of all I enjoy being SCOTTO

Camped with PolyParadise: '02, '03, '04

Why Burning Man? It's the only place I know where I can feed so many opposite needs. My need for community and solitude. My need for quiet and outrageous noise. My need for desolation and magnificent structure. And my need to DANCE!!!

Volunteer on the Playa? This year will be at PlayInfo Camp Specialties.: I have muscles that work but labor ain't a specialty.

Poly Paradise Favorite Moments: Wandering back into camp very late and very unstable every night - and there is Steve working magic with water - and providing a steadying upright pillar so I didn't fall in.

Art Projects? Working on some things... sure hope they don't melt in the sun.

2004 Profile Update 2004 will be my 3rd year at Burning Man and my 3rd year with PolyParadise.
I'm a keep to myself kind of guy, but this year I will be bringing my best friend out to the playa to re-connect with his crazy creative side.   Who knows what that will result in.. One can only hope.

If you want to know anything else about me.. see the inside of my brain at My Web Site
Anything you could possibly want to know is there.. and plenty you don't.

Why Burning Man? It attracts for several reasons: the encouragement to be and express my open and honest and loving self, the nudity (I'm a nudist), the fact that 30,000 can Leave No Trace, a chance to hang/relate/share with special sometimes like-minded people, the challenge to create something or at least steal someone else's great idea (i.e. cuddle pool), and yes the opportunity to feel jealous and insecure as I see my lover wander away wondering if he will ever return.

Camped with PolyParadise Before? '04

Why Burning Man? – It is a place without judgment, the ideal community to promote loving and giving. the energy of the place the moment you step thru the greeters gate, come on don't we all want to go to a place where the minute your get there someone hugs you and welcomes you. Watching it grow from just a few people to thousands...and so many of them bring so much of themselves to share with everyone. The myriad of emotions you experience. Walking down the road and having someone offer you  some watermelon, or a tostada,  or a popsicle, or a pancake, or a drink. People give for the pure joy of it not expecting anything in return. The Art, the music, the people, the costumes, the imaginations of each individual not competing for a prize of who can be the best...but just expressing from the joy of there souls.

Volunteer on the Playa? –Greeters Station welcoming people home it was amazing!!
also helping in camp, and facilitating a few of the Poly High Teas.

PolyParadise Favorite Moments – Scotto, who inspired me to discover burning man.  I am poly how can I pick only one Favorite Moment... Guiding listening and participating in poly high tea, all the hugs every day. Scotto's Kamikaze burning man adventure.

Toughest thing: coming home and trying to explain this to anyone who hasn't experience it.

Best thing: when you see another burner and know what that sparkle in their eyes is.

Burning Man Advise: it is what you make it....so make it amazing!

Been to Burning Man before? When? Yes - '94, ’95, ’96, ’97, ’00, ’02, ’03, ’04

Camped with PolyParadise Before?    No, but daily visitor during BM ’03 and ’04. First time camper this year.

Why Burning Man?  - It has taken a grip on every part of me, right from that first moment I discovered it by accident while out in the desert in ’94. Has changed my life and continues to do so. I still feel so lucky to have been able to live life in the full as a result of my freak discovery in the desert over a decade ago.

Volunteer on the Playa? – Lamplighters, Greeter at Kidsville, Regionals Caberet performer, Burning Bellies drummer

My Life:
I am a married kiwi with two lovely young boys and wonderful wife (Jane). We live in Upper Hutt New Zealand, where I work as a seismologist and Jane works as a medical librarian. We lived for a time in Reno, allowing us the luxury of discovering Burning Man by accident way back in 1994. My job brings us back here to the US on regular occasions, which allows for regular Burning Man attendances. I am the New Zealand Regional for Burning Man, and have organised the two “Kiwiburns” in our green southern outpost of BM. Kiwiburn  website in production..

Burning Man is the one  event that continues to get better and better for me. After 8 of them I can see that I will never tire of the event. My BM experiences get bigger, better and ,more enriching every time, and with them, my wonderful international BM community. I am particularly drawn to the openness of human interaction that comes with BM. My dream is to create the radical breadth of BM in New Zealand, a conservative country originally built of stiff upper lip British stock!

I very much look forward to camping with my good friends Scotto and Kathe this year, and others I’ve got to know at PolyParadise.

My Life? Grew up back east, came out west 20 years ago, fell in love with the outdoors here 8 years ago, fell in love 4 years ago, became fascinated with canyoneering two years ago. Currently trying to head off in a different direction, looking for opportunities in the outdoors. Have always been single, but have also enjoyed the burning intensity of true love. Looking forward to continuing to expand my horizons through the wonderful people I've met at BM.

Why Burning Man? I also see it as a massive mind expanding party where being yourself is highly encouraged and with so many friendly people. The visual orgy of the art, inanimate as well as human, stokes my fire every year.

Volunteer on the Playa? Would like to do a Greeters Station this year. In such an active theme camp I consider the work done to make it run well is a wonderful volunteer gift to the community, so I plan on helping out as much as possible within PolyP.

BM Favourite Moments: Going through the Mars funhouse with friends was great, taking in the sunrise and sunsets out on the playa, listening to chill music in the early morning, sharing the burns with friends

Burning Man Advise: Try to leave expectations at home and live in the moment while on the playa

Camped with PolyParadise Before?  again, Virgin ;)

Why Burning Man? because 'there's no place like home..'

My Life: I enjoy public transit, Ramen noodles, and keg stands... i.e., I'm a dedicated engineering student; pay the student fees by doing the waitering/bartending gig.

Looking forward to burning man; I've been fortunate to travel the world, but this BURN I'm certain will be the most unique experience. Am open-minded, mellow, and don't have bad days ('things only get better')

Poly Paradise Favourite Moments – am using some foresight here: being devirginized on the playa, human Carcass wash, and any time sharing the love with PP peeps

Burning Man Virgin - Playa name: many previous life incarnations: TorridZone Igloo, Legzander, even ZaZa Lipsoidic. Perhaps it is time to re-baptize in fire.

Where do you call home? Probably until kids turn from chrysalis to butterfly: Winooski, Vermont. Then probably New York City, or anywhere warmer.

Been to Burning Man before? Burning Man Virgin

Camped with PolyParadise Before? No

Why Burning Man? To live inside an alternative for a while. To give and to get. I love celebrations... outbursts of human energy... community working for joy! Human beings are my favorite thing about this brief visit to the planet. (Also my least favorite, separated along the war/art meridian.)

The past few months have been a journey of jumping over non-stop obstacles to make this journey. A list would have qualified my preparing for this trip as performance art. Not sure what else I’ll bring, but certainly wheelbarrows full of enthusiasm and dreams. There’s no stopping me.

Expectations and hopes: adventure, playing, inspiration, maps, art, interaction, music, imagination, sex, joy, playing, exploring, self-expression, playing, challenge, openness, friendship…did I mention playing?

My Life:
Born to first generation immigrants on the lower east side of New York City when it was still part of Eastern Europe. Fifty some years later, in Vermont, with three amazing teenagers, doing graphic arts for a natural food grocery store.

Chose Poly-Paradise because theme is important aspect of my life…High Teas sound like my cup of. Especially as I reassemble pieces after a glorious nine year flight nosedived six months ago.

A glimpse into the darker recesses of my soullessness: http://www.alexhirka.com

Volunteer on the Playa? My shoulder is available and I will put it to wheels as it is needed and where it fits the groove. I’m ready to jump in
