Burns: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 (soon!)
Default world home: Albuquerque, NM Why I'm a burner: Where else can you naked slip-n-slide, have a drink with complete strangers that make you feel like family, and experience something extraordinary every moment... (and of course the fire!)
How I came to be a burner: I'm a software geek, had my own business, sold it to a large company and discovered working for someone again was a real drag. So about 3 years ago I quit and begin a trek to discover new things. It started with a trip to Roswell for the 60th Anniversary UFO Festival, then a 2 week motorcycle ride to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Then by chance Hurricane Dean ended a planned dive trip to the Caribbean. Not being content with just staying home, I remembered about a strange weird hippie raver party thing in the desert called Burning Man that one of my friends had talked about.
So I looked it up and discovered it started in less than a week! I loaded up on some camping gear, water bottles, freeze dried food and headed to the playa. I arrived on Tuesday evening at dusk when everything was just beginning to light up, art cars cruising about, people out in their evening wear, a sensory overload from the first minute! In the time it took to find Center Camp I was hooked and knew I would return for many more burns.
Advice to virgins:
1) Take two pair of goggles, you will loose a pair.
2) Take many earplugs. (see #5)
3) You can not have too many costumes.
4) 2007 - hot hot hot, 2008 - cold cold cold, be ready for anything!
5) Don't over do the partying the first day, it's easy to do, and hang overs with lots of thump thump thump from the raver camps is not the best BM experience.
6) Volunteer!
7) Be ready, your life is about to change forever!
